Is Tempered Glass Spontaneously Breakable And Preventable?

Information on the Spontaneous Breakage Rate of Tempered Glass
Baseline Probability:Standard tempered glass produced by reputable manufacturers carries an inherent spontaneous breakage rate of approximately 3 per 1,000 units (0.3%). This means that out of every 1,000 sheets, roughly 1 to 3 may shatter without external force; this probability cannot be entirely eliminated.
Peak Periods: Incidents of spontaneous breakage increase significantly during the hot season (May to October). Some installers report receiving around 60 replacement orders for broken glass within a two-month span; this represents a surge in triggered events rather than an increase in the baseline probability itself.
Influencing Factors: Phase changes in nickel sulfide inclusions, residual hard impurities, and uneven stress distribution during manufacturing can all increase the likelihood of spontaneous breakage during actual use.

Prevention Methods for Spontaneous Breakage
Material Selection
Prioritize products labeled as "Heat-Soaked Tempered Glass" (HST); this significantly reduces the risk of spontaneous breakage.
Alternatively, opt for ultra-clear (low-iron) glass, which has lower impurity levels and a much lower spontaneous breakage rate compared to standard tempered glass.

Installation
Avoid fitting the glass too tightly; use high-elasticity rubber gaskets within the frame to prevent the metal frame from crushing the glass due to thermal expansion and contraction.
Ensure proper use of setting blocks and protective spacers during installation to avoid creating additional installation stress.
Daily Use
When using air conditioning in summer, try to keep the indoor temperature above 26°C to avoid an excessive temperature difference between the indoors and outdoors.
Do not haphazardly apply coverings to the glass surface, avoid direct contact between the glass and overheated objects, and prevent localized temperature imbalances (uneven heating or cooling).
Regularly inspect the glass for abnormalities such as edge cracks, an increase in internal air bubbles, or mold growth; repair or replace aging glass promptly if such issues are detected.
