Core Mechanical Characteristics
High Strength: Impact strength is 3–5 times that of ordinary glass; flexural strength is 4–5 times that of ordinary glass; surface compressive stress is ≥90 MPa.
Good Elasticity: Can withstand greater deformation than ordinary glass; does not easily shatter after the removal of external force; exhibits excellent wind-load resistance.
Processing Limitations: Cannot undergo secondary processing (such as cutting, grinding, or drilling) after tempering; all shaping must be completed prior to the tempering process.
Safety-Related Characteristics
Safe Breakage Pattern:Upon breakage due to external force, it shatters into small, uniform, blunt-edged, honeycomb-like particles without sharp edges, significantly reducing the risk of injury from cuts.
Spontaneous Breakage (Self-Destruction) Characteristic:May spontaneously shatter due to internal stress imbalance without external force-a characteristic not found in ordinary glass.
Thermal Stability Characteristics
High Thermal Shock Resistance: Can withstand temperature fluctuations of 200–300°C (3–5 times the capacity of ordinary glass) and is resistant to shattering caused by sudden temperature changes.
Physicochemical and Appearance Characteristics
Good Chemical Stability: A type of silicate glass resistant to water, weak acids, and most organic solvents; vulnerable only to hydrofluoric acid, hot phosphoric acid, and concentrated strong alkalis.
Excellent Weather Resistance: Does not easily age or discolor under UV exposure; does not produce harmful decomposition products during long-term outdoor use.
Slight Appearance Deformation: Exhibits slight surface irregularities (such as "wind spots" or waviness); thickness decreases by 0.2–1.8 mm compared to the pre-tempered state; unsuitable for direct use as a mirror surface.
