Replacement criteria based on the situation
Standard scenario: Tempered glass cannot be repaired after spontaneous breakage; for safety reasons, it must be replaced with new glass, as continued use is not an option.
Spontaneous breakage under warranty (non-human-induced): If the breakage occurs within the warranty period and external force or third-party damage is ruled out, you can request a free replacement from the retailer or manufacturer.
Breakage due to improper installation: You can hold the installer accountable; they should bear the full cost of the replacement and provide the new glass free of charge.
Expired warranty or no clearly liable party: The user must pay for the replacement. The all-inclusive unit price for replacing standard tempered glass is typically 300–500 RMB/m², with an additional "high-altitude fee" of 100–300 RMB for work on high-rise buildings.
Replacement requirements for specialized glass
Double-glazed tempered glass: If only one pane breaks, you cannot replace just the shattered pane; the entire double-glazed unit must be replaced to prevent future issues such as air leakage, fogging, or structural instability.
High-rise exterior window glass: Do not attempt to replace this yourself; you must hire a certified company qualified for high-altitude work to avoid safety risks associated with falling from heights.
