Ultra-Strong Glass for Demanding Applications
SGP Laminated Glass uses SentryGlas ionomeric interlayer from Kuraray, commonly known as SGP interlayer. Its shear modulus is 50–100 times higher than that of standard PVB, while its tear strength is five times that of PVB. For the same glass thickness, SGP laminated glass can carry approximately twice the load of PVB laminated glass. This makes SGP interlayer a high-performance material for demanding glass structures. The high stiffness of the interlayer gives the laminated glass excellent structural strength. Under load, the laminated structure can behave more like a single structural unit. It also provides strong impact resistance and can withstand demanding conditions such as strong winds, earthquakes, and severe impacts. When the glass breaks, the fragments remain attached to the interlayer, helping maintain the integrity of the glass panel. This makes SGP laminated glass suitable for applications that require enhanced security, including certain blast- and ballistic-resistant glazing systems, subject to the specified glass configuration and testing requirements. SGP interlayer also has low moisture absorption, which helps reduce the risk of delamination and edge yellowing over time. Its yellowness index is below 1.5, providing high optical clarity. When combined with ultra-clear glass, it can provide excellent light transmission.
